  2. What Does AutoLaunch Do?

  4. AutoLaunch is a screen saver "engine" that launches an application after your Macintosh has been idle for a specified amount of time.  It's great for:

  6.  - Using stand-alone MacroMedia Director movies as screen savers

  8.  - Setting up self-running demonstrations

  10.  - Executing AppleScript applets during idle time

  33. AutoLaunch has been designed so that it can be easily licensed and distributed as part of a complete solution for promotional screen savers or in-store demos.  Specifically:

  35.  - AutoLaunch can be configured to save its settings internally instead of in a preferences file.  That way you only have to ship the control panel and the desired application.

  37.  - AutoLaunch is capable of quickly finding an application anywhere on a hard disk, even if a user or customer moves or renames it.  This makes both installation and support easier when you need to provide a solution on a large number of Macintoshes.

  39. AutoLaunch has been written to be as unintrusive as possible.  It does not patch the Mac OS excessively to do its work, doesn't tie up the processor, and uses only a small amount of memory.

  42. Installation

  44. AutoLaunch will run on any Performa, Macintosh, Power Macintosh, or compatible computer running System 7.0 or higher.

  46. To install AutoLaunch:

  48. 1)    Drag the AutoLaunch control panel onto your System folder icon.  Answer "OK" when asked if you want it put into the Control Panels folder.

  50. 2)    Restart your Macintosh.

  52. 3)    Open the Control Panels folder from the Apple menu.  Double-click on AutoLaunch and set up the application, idle timeout, and hot corners as described in the Setup section.
